abc - artists' books club

abc : is a cross-disciplinary forum for makers of artists’ books and ephemera. It provides an opportunity to get together for focused critical and constructive dialogue, to contextualise work, explore ideas and to develop creative practice and theory.

New Year Beginning 2012 - Happy New Year!

            

Our last meeting was on the 2nd of February

    We talked about the What’s in the Box? Project, the deadline is the 5th of April.
   
Discussed the new International Altered Book Project, the deadline is the 14th of June.
   
Tutorials and technical assistance for either project is available any time on Thursdays with an appointment. Our next meeting will be on the 1st of March in 1F6 from 12.30 – 1.30

Archived ABC events and pages
ABC Autumn update and Winter prospective. The Artists Books Club is being extended and supported this year by the Bind and Unwind bookbinding circle run by Alice Drake and will run every 2nd 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month.

Spring 2011 We are preparing for the abc stand at Bristol Artists' Books Event (BABE) over the weekend of April 30 and May 1. abc meeting Thursday 12th May 2011 : guest speaker: Bronwen Bradshaw. The meeting is in conjunction with celebrating artists' books club's second birthday

ABC year beginning 2011 The end of year (2010) abc trip included both a visit to Book Arts Bookshop, where Angie Butler's London launch of her Miss Carol Project took place, and to Small Publisher's Fair, where Sally Alatalo's Sara Ranchouse Publishing featured in the Events Programme. ABC Summer 2010 Angie Butler & Natalie McGrorty's trip to Doverodde

April-May 2010 featured: A round up of news and events from abc's first year and a look forward to the Doverodde Book Arts Festival in Denmark that Angie Butler & Natalie McGrorty will be attending and running the abc stand - work will feature (& hopefully be sold!) from UWE Staff & MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking students (who are abc members) & ‘friends’ who are showing include MA Printmaking Staff & Students from The University of Wales.

December 2009 featured: Guidelines to Critical Discourse :The context: an environment where we each feel psychologically and physically comfortable, with an atmosphere of trust and openness. Also, Collaboration: two heads are better than one - or are they? some "questions of collaboration" you could ask...

Spike Artist Book & Zine Fair 31st October 2009
At Halloween abc & friends made their debut appearance @ Spike Island. It was made possible by the 21 people who contributed their work for showing on the day. We had a fantastic and eclectic range of work including multiples, zines, bookworks, badges, reconfigured books, and postcards, which all looked great together and made for a really successful day with something to interest everyone.

On 8th October 2009 abc held OShO (official shelf opening) to celebrate a feast of source materials housed on a shelf - catalogues, artists' books, newsletters and other related archival material to facilitate research, reflection and historical contextualization of book arts practice…
