|The Death and Life of Al-Mutanabbi Street
The John Rylands Library, Manchester, UK
Thursday 7 April to Sunday 26 June 2011
Full of bookshops and bookstalls, Al-Mutanabbi Street is at the centre of Baghdad’s literary and intellectual world. On March 5, 2007, a car bomb was detonated on this street, killing 38 people. This could have been any street, anywhere in the world.
Any street, anywhere. Thursday 19th May 2011
As the British representative of the Al-Mutanabbi Coalition, Sarah Bodman gave a talk about the project and the impact of the worldwide response to the attack on Thursday 19th May 2011 alongside the exhibition of broadsides “The Death and Life of Al-Mutanabbi Street” at The John Rylands Library, Deansgate, Manchester, UK. The broadsides are on display in this historic setting until 26th June 2011. Admission is free. Many thanks to Katie Donlon, Education and Learning Officer at John Rylands Library for all her work organising this exhibition.
