British Butterflies
Tracey Bush
This book is made with reference to each butterfly’s name having a link to the location / section of map utilised e.g. ‘Wood White’ is cut
from a white map of a wood.

This stamp album contains British Butterflies hand cut from maps of the British Isles. There are quirky links to the butterflies common
names, which are hand-written in brown ink. For example a real Comma butterfly has a white comma on the underside of its wing –
the comma in my album has a comma punctuation mark in the same place. It is bound in assorted book cloth, with wood engraving
endpapers by Enid Marx, and striped ribbon ties. The aim was to emulate a stamp album from the 1930’s. The stamp album format
explores the conventions of philately. It is an alternative to a collection of real specimens, and celebrates the poetry of their common names.

Open numbered edition -20 in existence at present, London, UK, 2004
15.5 x 11.5 x 0.9 cms, rebound stamp album, hand-cut (scissors) shapes from maps of the British Isles, handwriting.
