![]() Walk Marian Cronin I felt inspired by a holiday spent walking in the countryside of Wiltshire, where I visited many historical sites like the stone circles at Avebury and Stonehenge, but I couldn’t see how my impression of this rolling landscape, dotted with ancient earthworks, hill forts, burial mounds and monuments called to be made into a book - books suddenly seemed so small. I decided to condense my ideas into simple linoprint ‘snapshots’ of each location I visited. I kept them very small and monochrome for the same reason- anything more would just seem too much, but I painted the book cover a fresh blue and green because that is how I remember it all - hot summer days for once! Each image is really a destination- laid in sequence. They are linked by walking: Avebury to Silbury Hill and so on. Because when you are walking, as beautiful as your surroundings may be, you are nearly always thinking ahead: ‘What will it look like when I get there?’ Edition of 9, London, UK, 2003 10.7 x 11 x 1 cms, watercolour paper, linoprints and drawing on paper marz_cronin@yahoo.com back |
