100 Bookmarks: 100 Facts About Figures
I have been troubled by numbers ever since I was a child. To me, numbers have always seemed foreign and unfriendly, rigid and inflexible. My aim in creating these bookmarks has been to remove some of the unfriendliness of the numbers 1 to 100 and invest each with its own character.

Having spent several weeks collating number facts from various sources, I decided which fact related most closely to my idea of each particular number. I then accompanied the fact with a suitable image. Now and again I allowed some of my own personal links to certain numbers into the series - ‘seventy-seven as the year of my birth being the most obvious. I concluded the entire sequence with a reference to my favourite novel, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The driving idea behind the work was the creation of a complete set which is intended to exist dispersed throughout the world. It will never be presented as a whole again and no one person will own it in its entirety (not even myself), as the series has completed its one and only run.
