![]() Hold My Place 2007 Tennille Shuster Florida, USA These bookmarks are created using digital illustration and design, and are then inkjet printed on Strathmore paper and finished with corner-rounding and string. The content is based on the idea that life is a series of defining moments. While Shuster is not sure why she remembers some of the seemingly insignificant bits and pieces of herpast that appear on the 50 bookmarks, she believes that they create a unique story - that they "hold her place" in history. Viewers are encouraged to use the bookmarks to hold their place in a book, while holding Shuster's place in time. These bookmarks form part of Tennille’s book practice, “When I usually exhibit these, I do a single edition (of 60, with a cover page, as opposed to two editions of 50, for this project), and cut long ties at the top and knot them so they are bound with the string. Then I create custom boxes to house the "book" of bookmarks. I have seen them displayed fanned out, which looks nice, and I have displayed them on the wall in a time-line format, which worked well.” See the images here of a recent exhibition of Tennille’s bookmarks. Tennille is currently working on setting up a website, of which the URL will be www.shusterbookarts.com, but for now, anyone that is interested is more than welcome to contact her at this e-mail address. tennille_shuster@yahoo.com back |
