Norman McBeath Edinburgh, Scotland As a printmaker and photographer, traces of human activity have always interested me. This is why I thought it would be interesting to use an image from the process of printmaking for this bookmark project run by the Centre for Fine Print Research. The image is a digital print of the marks left by a pallet knife in mixing up prussian-blue ink on glass and is a detail from an exhibition - ‘Evidence’ - held recently at Edinburgh Printmakers with an introduction by the writer A. L. Kennedy. The exhibition looked at the curious, fascinating nature of the many cuts, smears, stains and abrasions left in the wake of printmaking – “the ruin and the wonder that our creativity and curiosity leave behind” as A. L. Kennedy wrote. The three words on the bookmark emphasise the function of the piece and link it to the pages in which it might rest. www.normanmcbeath.com nm@normanmcbeath.com back |
