![]() Silent Poetry Notebooks Kay Byrne Leicester, England, UK I first created artists’ books in 1999 as part of my undergraduate studies. I continue to create and use books today within my research, which examines the associations between photography and death. Primarily quotes are used as the inspiration for my work; I find that language and text are important emotive triggers in allowing the questioning of death and mortality. This bookmark is based upon a quote from Edgar Allan Poe, whose elegant words conceal a darker meaning. The piece at first glance is elegant and simple yet when investigated has a deeper meaning. My work is minimal in execution, using nothing more than text, a small photograph or illustration. My work has been exhibited in Canada and Ireland since 1995. imajica@eircom.net kbyrne01@dmu.ac.uk back |
