![]() Streets Kate Mulheron Sydney, Australia Streets, the perfect place for those seeking continuity in reality, and the place of brief moments, are the beginning of a narrative that may be written on that image; a visual narrative that takes shape gradually over a period of time. My work involves a process of photography and printmaking, and the collection of readymade objects (usually paper), employing all or one of these practices within an image. Capturing images through photography, of seemingly insignificant, ephemeral and ordinary subjects and recognising their aesthetic and communicative impact on our culture, I remain intrigued by the structured chaos that is our urban setting and the ways in which signs, objects, sites and codes assemble our urban landscape, in the gritty and beautiful urban world. People, travellers who have experienced loneliness, people working and people going about their trade and their daily lives, people and their traces at a glance. Seemingly mundane images that, in their entirety, constitute a fascinating display of city life at its most ordinary. katemulheron@yahoo.com.au back |
