![]() Ellen Golla Bayside, California, USA Around the time I started to plan my bookmarks, my local university library discarded several bins full of books. Being a hoarder who likes to work with recycled materials, I, of course, had to help myself. After I took some of my new treasures back to the studio it occurred to me: what better way to “infiltrate the library system” than to return the books to libraries . . . or at least parts of the books. I cut them up into miniature pages that I then shuffled randomly together. I collated these into pamphlets that I sewed on to recycled cardstock (in keeping with the theme of reusing materials). The juxtapositions of little excerpts of text and pictures from such a wide variety of subject matter—outdated psychology, physiology, phlebotomy, mathematics, economics, foreign languages, etc.—are at turns poetic, humorous, or just entertainingly bizarre.
