Exhibitions at the Biblioteca Central, UFMG
Two exhibitions at the Central Library accompanied the seminar, Publicações de artistas: o códice e variações, curated by Dr Maria do Carmo de Freitas Veneroso, 29/10/13 – 22/11/13. This presented works by staff and students of UFMG produced using traditional printmaking processes. The exhibition Ensinar e Aprender como Formas de Arte, curated by Dr Amir Brito Cadôr, 29/10/13 – 22/11/13, presented artists’ books from the collection at UFMG including works by John Cage, Joseph Beuys and Helio Fervenza.
Mário Azevedo – Artists’ Books
Whilst in Belo Horizonte, Sarah also visited the Library of the Centro Cultural SESC JK in downtown Belo Horizonte, with Dr Paulo Silveira, to see a small retrospective exhibition of artists’ books by Mário Azevedo (2000-2012). The exhibition from 7/10/13 – 8/11/13 was the launch event of the Biblioteca Viva project at the centre; a new scheme that aims to encourage educational activities and engagement with books through free exhibitions and workshops. The project is inviting the public to consider the library as a place to encounter experimental works around the book, and interact with the collections.
