A quote from the book, 'Even Cowgirls Get the Blues' is interlaced with a personal recollection of a youthful adventure in America. A cult classic, the book magnified and romanticized my experience of running away from home and hitching around the Western states. A page from an old 'Arizona Highway' magazine expresses how huge the experience was for me, the expansiveness of the country, and the timeless and iconic old west, the open highway and freedom. 'Well thumbed' describes the main character Sissy Hankshaw's own appendages; the roads she travelled; and the book itself.
