Charlotte Hall - Practice in a Professional Context Intern for Artists' Books, February - May 2012 at CFPR
I trained in London as a Graphic designer with a specialist interest in printmaking, typography, paper engineering and bookbinding. I am currently halfway through an MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at UWE.

The key elements of my practice are shape, pattern, structure, scale and viewpoint. I convey this through artists’ books and printmaking I feel my passion for architecture inspires the format and folds of the books I create. I want them to invite the reader in so that they can explore the book in their own way rather than being intimidated.

A second avenue to my practice is based on insects; I am currently exploring the relationship between insects and architecture.

I discovered Hedi Kyle several years ago by accident and was immediately inspired by her folding techniques and practice. Her bindings are often talked about but not always credited to her. Even after extensive research I could still only find out very little about her influences and methodology on her own practice. Through UWE, I was able to contact Hedi and I am currently interviewing her for my Practice in A Professional Context module.

After my experience of researching, and engaging with a fellow book artist, I wanted to take on an archive internship to expose myself to new book artists that will broaden and inspire my practice as much as Hedi has.
