| Exhibition in the Artists' Books Study
Area at the Library School of Art, Media and Design, UWE Bristol: Book Arts from Herefordshire College of Art & Design 29th November 2005 – 10th January 2005 As a specialist college of art & design we have developed a strong interest in book arts. Every year a book arts project is set as a cross-college competition that culminates in an exhibition. Students and staff are invited to explore and expand the traditional boundaries of the book or to consider its form and function as a medium for the creative potential of linear and non-linear narrative. The works exhibited reflect the wide range of potential for the investigation of the book form in specialist art and design education. ![]() The book works exhibited have been selected from entries submitted for the competition. They are made using a wide range of media and concepts based on the artists, designers and photographers’ interpretations and notion of the book. There are books as sculpture, and works which explore different types of narrative and the time based nature of sequentially folded and bound pages; some of the works on display are produced through digital means, others engage with more traditional methods of production. Many of the works celebrate the tactile qualities of the book, some are very personal responses to a wide variety of subjects. There are books with details that require close scrutiny and examination and other works that have an immediate overall visual impact. This is a diverse and intriguing exhibition demonstrating that the book form can be appropriated by artists and designers and presented in new and exiting ways. back |
