Artists’ Books Abroad
Minnesota Center for Book Arts
1011 Washington Ave South
Minneapolis, MN 55415, USA

Saturday, November 1st 2008
11am - 5pm

Free and open to the public

Visiting artists Sarah Bodman and Tom Sowden present an overview of artist's book publishing in Europe and further afield: contemporary artists’ books, Internet publishing projects, altered books, performance books, and use of digital and traditional production methods. They will also offer some ideas of places to visit and events to attend to discover even more about artists’ books.

After the presentation, meet with Sarah and Tom individually for a session of Artist's Book Surgery, a free opportunity for working book artists to discuss and receive advice and feedback on any aspect of a book related project: conceptual, technical, marketing or otherwise.

We spent time at MCBA interviewing staff and MCBA’s Artistic Director Jeff Rathermel for our AHRC project What will be the canon for the artist’s book in the 21st Century? In an arena that now includes both digital and traditionally produced artists’ books, what will constitute the concepts of artists’ publishing in the future?

You can download our case study interview of a model book art centre with Jeff Rathermel at Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) Minneapolis, as a free PDF file from the project’s homepage.
