Book selected: In a Glass Darkly, by Sheridan Le Fanu
I have been making altered books for many years, so was pleased to take part in the altered book project at U.W.E. I chose 'In a glass darkly' as the titles of the books I choose are always of importance, usually by obscure authors.
The inner book was always worked into and the back cover left plain, this time it’s the first book I’ve made where the back is important too, making the book a standing object. Encased in broken mirror, plaster of Paris and scrim painted with protein dyes, waxed and embedded with found objects. All materials used are symbolic. .
