I began my ‘regeneration’ of this guide by first taking it on a visit to the museum itself (located at Hyde Park Corner). It is a space of shabby opulence, with a heavy feeling of redundancy, yet is - as it typical with heritage sites - abuzz with reverent tourists.
My response tries to capture a sense of this decay and also uncritical deference to empire, and comprises a poem (illustrated by photographs and printed on a card insert for the book) and a sound piece - a sampling of museum goers talking, with the drone of audioguides playing in the background.
