Melanie Bush ![]() Book selected: Exhibit Design: The Graphics of Trade Show Communication New Title: Ex Design The original book had eight image-based chapters; as it was about exhibition design in the 1980s, it had a strong graphic style of that period. I responded to this graphic style, initially in a subtle way, viewing the structure as a set of instructions to cut and fold, moving to a more interventionist approach. The book was published in 1984, so I incorporated text from my 1975 copy of George Orwell’s 1949 book 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'. The text choices were dictated by corresponding page numbers in the two books. I exploited Big Brother connotations I found. ![]() The people depicted in the exhibitions were few and many were posed, I peopled the book more. I brought the publication date and content together by 'making an exhibition of myself' in 1984 / two chapters. Finally I used an iterative process by reintegrating images of parts of the manipulated book back into it, thus bringing the book up to date. web : www.weloveyourbooks.com back |
