Book selected: Victorian and Edwardian Decorative Art, Royal Academy of Arts
The Book ‘Victorian and Edwardian Decorative arts” was chosen as a reflection of my interest in the decorative arts from the Victorian period. Sadly, the original book had a complete lack of visual celebration for the highly decorative objects suggested in the title, its contents focusing on listing and cataloguing accompanied by small black and white images.
This prompted my response to transform the book itself into an object that would suggest decorative forms from the Victorian period.
The book was disassembled and each page laser cut with a repeating Victorian motif. The book was then remade with each page folded to give volume and form.
