Collaged interventions that used coloured, found images that responded to the painters’ styles, subject matter, mood or narrative.
I changed my mind about how to approach this project and how to reinvent my chosen book many times. I knew I wanted to change the book fundamentally and yet keep something of its essence. Essence meaning something empirical; its form, its material, it’s content, it mass.
Taking inspiration from the novels context, the Christian church, specifically its transformation beliefs and metaphors, I burnt the book and from the ash produced a pigment used to paint a picture of the book. Thus the book is lost, but is still present materially in the pigment and visually in the image. It has been transfigured.
