Holly Ormrod ![]() Book selected: Christmas Frost in Summer: The Story of the Brontë Family, by Margaret Fox I started by reading the content of the book, and was particularly drawn to the hardships and triumphs of the family (specifically the sisters) were put through. In response I started to systematically cut, with a scalpel blade, through each leaf of the book. Deconstructing/constructing an abstract pattern of fine lines; symbolising their collective sense of spirit. As I cut, I began to pick out key phrases, which I subsequently framed with my ‘pattern’. ![]() In my practice I am currently concentrating on the impact that shadows and use of scale can have on ‘book objects’, and thus how they are transformed. Having created this metaphorically cut book, I started to photograph it. Interestingly the resulting photographs have in fact become the finished pieces, speaking far more loudly than the ‘book object’ itself. ![]() Recycling this book has shifted its original status- now a photographed art object, where the audience is unable to interact with it. email : hollyormrod@hotmail.com back |
