Book selected: The Undertaking, by Thomas Lynch
I chose this book because I love Lynch’s poetic take on death, the ‘dismal trade’; then spent the next 3 months immobilised and unable to alter this altar… sticking the pages together suggested stiffs… random selection of text is recontextualised in relation to the images… and removing a section led to the concept of creating a place to honour, and bury, all Life’s incomplete/ dead undertaking - burning removed pages, which were then photographed and re-inserted to symbolise Life’s inherent birth/death cycles.
