Artist’s Book and Multiples Fair
The Gallery, londonprintstudio, 425 Harrow Road, London W10 4RE
Saturday 12 April 2008
11am - 6pm

scissorspaperstone was a one-day artist’s book and multiples fair which showcased work by over 80 contemporary artists, book artists and small presses at londonprintstudio.

The fair included free workshops and printmaking demonstrations in the studio, and a display exhibition of artists’ books on loan from the ABPP programme at the Centre for Fine Print Research.

Sarah held a free, book arts surgery with bookable slots during the day.

Soprano
Janis Kelly performed ‘Lied’ from Movement II of Felix Mendelssohn’s, ‘Vaterland, in deinen Gauen’, from Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest (1840) in the studio. The music was commissioned for the Gutenbergfest held in Leipzig in 1840 to celebrate the invention of printing. Buchdruckerkunst = art of printing.

Proboscis also presented Diffusion:
Diffusion is a free publishing format which we developed in 1999 to help us find new ways of publishing creative work and reaching new audiences using the internet
as a distribution mechanism for handmade paper publications. Last year we began testing our experimental 'publishing-on-demand' platform, the Diffusion Generator,
which is designed to enable people (without design skills or access to high-end DTP) to make their own Diffusion eBooks & StoryCubes.

A number of reduced-rate tables were also used for students and recent graduates to show and sell their work during the fair.

The event was organised by londonprintstudio in partnership with
Book Arts at the Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England, and supported by the Paddington Development Trust, a community-led organisation with social objectives and is actively engaged in the economic, environmental and social regeneration of the north Paddington area (www.4paddington.com).
