| Printing and lock-up tricks
on the Vandercook Workshops with John Risseeuw Print Centre at Bower Ashton campus Thursday 20th November 2008 Professor John Risseeuw, Visiting Artist from the School of Art, Arizona State University, ran two letterpress demos on Thursday 20th November in the relief print area for undergraduate and post graduate students, showing them how to get the most out of letterpress printing on the Vandercook. ![]() John has been creating and publishing artists' books and prints utilising letterpress for many years, and has run a press collaborating with other artists, writers and musicians to make works since 1982. John demonstrated how to create movement and emphasis with type, and some tricks to use in print work. ![]() John Risseeuw is the director of Pyracantha Press, established at Arizona State University in 1982 as the production and research imprint of the School of Art’s book arts programme. The Press undertakes book arts projects which have particular merit in literary content, which result in visual or technical research, or which provide for significant collaboration between writers and artists or between artists. Publications of the Press are not done as class projects, but are produced with professional care and quality by the director, the staff printer, and graduate research assistants.
