I recently discovered Dr. Martin’s bleedproof white and have been writing quotes on a handmade recycled paper from India. I like the crispness of the white lettering against the textured paper and torn and deckled edges. I found this quote from Thomas Carlyle from a letter he wrote to this mother in 1817. I was attracted to it because my books are my friends. However, as I wrote it over and over, I began to think that while the quote spoke well of books, it didn’t say much about his friends. I consider myself fortunate to have friends who are people as well as ones who are books.
