I am a mixed media artist working mainly with watercolour, acrylics, inks and collage, in addition to exploring simple printmaking techniques. In recent years I have discovered the delights of making books – often small, simple folded structures, using my hand printed and painted papers, sometimes incorporating small sketches and text.
For the bookmark project, I have used hot-pressed 140lb Bockingford watercolour paper, acrylic paint, inks and gesso. An abstract painted background has subsequently been hand printed with a linocut of a flower, with the collage element designed to clip over the book page. The idea arose in response to the surprise of opening a book and finding a delicately pressed plant or leaf carefully preserved by a previous reader.
