| Reading Around…e-book
download Simple assembly instructions These instructions are to make the pages into a very simple sewn or stapled book with cover, or to cut into single pages to go into a folder. We have designed the layout to be as easy as possible to assemble for those with no bookbinding skills. We know that others who already make their own books don't need to follow these instructions, so feel free to make your bound copy however you wish. Please be aware that the pages are in order (without numbers), and are listed by artists' titles and names at the end of the download, in the order that the images appear in the book's pages. The book has been designed to print out on A4 or American letter size papers. To make the pages into a simple French-folded, sewn or stapled book with cover, or to cut into single pages with a folded cover you will need: Book: 33 sheets of A4 or US letter sized paper For a cover: two sheets of thicker paper or card to cut slightly larger than the stack of paper when you have printed the pages out and folded them. One sheet of laser or photocopier sticky label sheet. We have just made a title for you to print out on an A4/US sticky label sheet, so you can cut this and attach to any card or paper cover you make. Plus: Needle and thread for a sewn copy or a heavy-duty office stapler, or a paper-punch and some threads or ribbon. Downloads: For either book: Download the e-book PDF file the sticker PDF file. Open and check that your printer and page-setup settings are for 'landscape' and 'centre' of the paper. Print all 33 pages as single sided sheets. Print out the sticky label. To make a French-fold version: • Take the first printed page, turn face down, fold the right-hand edge back to meet the left-hand edge and crease along the fold with a bone folder (or gently with a ruler). You should now have the first title page facing you, with the fold on the right hand edge. • Fold each of the following pages the same way. • Stack them so that they are in order with the first page on the top. • Measure the stack of pages and cut two pieces of card or thicker paper out, for the front and back covers, to slightly overlap (2-3 mm wider than) your paper, but the same height. Cut the sticker and apply to the front cover. • Put the front and back covers on each end of the pile and sew or staple through all the pile down the left hand edge. Or, you can use a paper-punch to make two holes and then run coloured threads or ribbons through to tie together. To make single loose pages to go into a card folder: • Cut each image out to size at 111 x 175 mm. • Use one of the pages which fills the whole 111 x 175 mm area to make a template overlay for ones which don't go all the way to the edge. • Just use the template to cut around those pages If you want to email us a photo of your bound copy to go onto the website when you have made it, then please send it to: email : Sarah.Bodman@uwe.ac.uk |
