The free symposium for the project was attended by 75 delegates in the UK and mainland Europe on 15th September 2009. The delegates ranged from academia, independent artists and craftspeople, to librarians, teachers and technical staff from schools, colleges and other HEIs.
Talks were presented by artists Su Blackwell and Jenny Smith and the project's principal investigator - artist Tom Sowden; there were also demonstrations on the CFPR laser cutters by Claire Phipps, a Q & A session on laser cutting with the audience and presenters, and stands for industrial exhibitors including Trotec and HPC Laser Ltd.
Alongside the symposium, the exhibition Drawing with Fire showcased works on paper utilising laser cutting, by 33 national and international artists.
