TV News: what you see is what you get
Original book title: The Technique of Television News by Ivor Yorke, 1987
The book is a homage to Hans-Peter Feldmann.

According to Feldmann, "Works of art should not be expensive, nor unique, but cheap and fast to produce. A painting immediately acquires a sort of importance, whereas a photo is much more arbitrary, as it's a lot easier to throw away."

The separation of the images from their contexts make other elements besides their narrative content important: the vocabulary with which the photograph communicated its meaning (its symbolism and expressiveness), formal aspects such as composition and rhythm, analogies between images and the suggestive character of advertising imagery or the psychological and emotional charge of the photographs. The new arrangements make it possible to observe the construction of different, sometimes unexpected meanings.
