![]() Sarah Bodman UK Greed Original book title: 'Greed, a film by Erich von Stroheim', edited by Joel W. Finler There is a biography of Stroheim at wikipedia. This book had pretty much fallen to pieces long before I chose it. It must have been borrowed a few times whilst it was in the library - it had been there since 1972, but had not been taken out for many years. It was a dense script, and true to its title, depicted the downfall and death of characters greedy for gold. The shooting script for this silent film was 10 hours long, but due to studio changes and cuts it was finally released only as a two-hour production, which made no sense. After reading it, I used what was left of the cover for its gold allure, and dark grappling figures. As the book had been withdrawn and offered for sale at 50p, I decided to bury that amount of money in a slab of brick sized concrete with the cover embedded in the top. If you are greedy enough to want it, you will have to break it to get the money out. Sarah.Bodman@uwe.ac.uk www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk |
