![]() Lin Charlston UK Virtual Reality Systems Original book title: 'Virtual Reality Systems ' edited by Earnshaw, Gigante, Jones 'Virtual Reality Systems' describes the complex operations and cumbersome technical equipment used to develop 3D virtual worlds. Browsing through this book reminded me that the book form itself has been a 'virtual reality system' for hundreds of years, successfully bringing imaginary worlds to life and evoking action through words and imagery. I have used the pages from 'Virtual Reality Systems' to create an 'anti-tec' virtual space. The reader operates the system by looking through an aperture (which is also an eye) and extending the tunnel structure. At the bottom of the expandable space is a reflection of an android face with an animate eye - the reader's eye. The interplay between the 'real' and the 'virtual' is further complicated by the insight that reflections in a mirror are called virtual images. lincharlston@btinternet.com www.faction.org.uk |
