Perfectly summed up by artist Jeremy Dixon* who also took the lovely photo here. World Book Night was 23rd April 2016 with our WBN United Artists event taking place in Halifax UK. Forty artists read The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and then designed rubber stamp artwork to print on the night. These were sent in from, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden and all over the UK. We printed all day at the (highly recommended) White Swan in Halifax, and made a short film in the evening. You can read more about our adventures here
We are delighted to announce that Dr Tim Mosely of Queensland College of Art will give a free public lecture on artists’ books and printmaking to launch an exhibition of Australian artists’ books and prints from the Griffith Centre for Creative Arts Research, at UWE Bristol’s (Bower Ashton) City Campus on Thursday 30th June 2016 at 3pm. A touring exhibition project for libraries curated by Anton Hecht. This project launched in Darlington Central in October 2015, after a first install in Gateshead Central Library in 2013 of a set of flipbooks by other artists. This is the second part of the project, supported by Creative Darlington and ACE. Earlier this year the show was in Falmouth, Massachusetts and also shown at Middleton Public Library USA. The USA tour was supported by Library as Incubator.
The new venue is Bower Ashton Library, UWE Bristol throughout May, before moving on to Liverpool this summer. Artists are welcome to join the project and make a flipbook from 12th April – 30th May 2016. The existing books will be out for handling in the library, visitors are welcome to come and browse. This project is touring internationally until 2018. The online Inventory gallery was launched to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the bombing of al-Mutanabbi Street on 5th March 2012, for which project partners around the world held commemorative readings and events. Since then the Inventory has grown as artists’ books created for the project have arrived. The gallery pages show images and information for each of the 260 books completed for the project.
