Scott's Flight: Migrating East
Sarah Bodman and Tom Sowden, 2010
A unique, reconfigured laser cut book for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Fourth International Biennale for the Artist's Book,
The Library of Alexandria, Egypt, May 2010. Number of pages: 416. Page size: 16 x 10 cm. Book size: 16.5 x 10.5 x 2.5 cm

The original book Scott's Prose Works: Paul's Letters to his Kinsfolk, published by Robert Cadell, Edinburgh, 1834
(containing Scott's essays and prose on his travels around the continent) was found on the floor of a defunct bookstore
in Bristol, UK, where it had been abandoned and trampled.

We do not know whose library, or libraries it belonged to over the last 175 years. We brought it back to the studio, and are
reworking it with cut outs of Ospreys. These mimic the flight patterns of the book's nomadic travels North, South and
West, and now, like the bird, it has travelled East to Egypt.

Made by invitation for the The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Fourth International Biennale for the Artists' Book
April - May 2010, Egypt, in collection The Bibliotheca Alexandria.
