May 2012 'I swear by the shelter of the stars (a mighty oath, if you knew it) that this is a glorious Koran, safeguarded in a book, which none may touch except the purified; a revelation from the Lord of the Universe' (Koran 16:74). The mightiest liberating thoughts have always been 'safeguarded' in books. The adage - knowledge is power (Sir Francis Bacon) - encapsulates the reason why 'books' have always symbolized 'freedom of thought'. To bomb or burn books aims to limit this power to only the chosen “few”. The prints in this book centre on a psychoanalytical journey of transformation to a conscious state of being free; that is, to be beyond the fear of freedom. Marie-Therese Wisniowski works full time as a studio artist, author, curator, speaker and tutor. She is the Director of Art Quill Studio at Arcadia Vale in New South Wales, Australia. She is a casual lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Australia and conducts workshops /lectures at international conferences. She specialises in the area of ArtCloth, artist printmaker books and limited edition prints. Her current work explores contemporary socio-political post-graffiti and environmental issues.
