A Thousand Words

A Thousand Words;
Derek Michael Besant RCA, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, 2012
The quiet aftermath
everything as ash
slow motion deafness
page strewn blindness
smoke dissolving to nothing
taking with it human remains
the dog by the doorway
finding his master's shoe
wondering when they will be going home.
I wanted my image to be reminiscent of the scene after the unsuspected
explosion across the site somewhere between the familiar and unfamiliar,
recognition and loss.
Accordion 12 pp book in plastic sleeve; Printed in UV ink transfer
on Mayfair Cover stock, folded; 8" x 10" finish size expanding

Though I practice traditional techniques in printmaking, I also
work in unconventional materials and technologies associated with
advances in the billboard and industrial printing industry. Themes
of Sleep, Migration, Drowning, Falling, Presence + Absence fill
my museum exhibition themes and public art installations. Recent
