Missing Persons; Alexandra Haeseker, Calgary Alberta Canada, 2012 I designed my book to unfold horizontally so as to mimic the explosion of the bomb in the street. I incorporated archetypes representing the everyday people who frequented the book market and cafe lifestyle that is similar worldwide. The predominance of visceral red lighting on the figures against the yellow ground speaks to the light of the explosion and blood; two forces that collided in al-Mutanabbi Street that day... Accordion 12 pp book in plastic sleeve, printed in UV vinyl ink on Mayfair cover stock; 8" x 10" finish size unfolds to 8 feet long My work investigates the collective context of isolation of the human figure. Mobs, gangs, armies, groups, populations, flocks, schools, packs and teams bring patterns, habits, rules and expectations in their behaviour… and I look for what else those characteristics might reveal. Museum or International Biennial installations in Shanghai China, Liège Belgium, Petrozavodsk Russia, Nees Denmark, Krakow Poland and Beograd Serbia in the past two years follow this investigation in my practice. haeseker@telus.net
