I have always been interested in the link between the body and language – how gesture and mark are generated and how we inscribe
language upon the body. The terminology of books is intrinsically linked to physical body parts and orientation: the body of the text, figure,
spine, front, back, header, footnotes, appendix, fist, glossary…. A book in our hands can be seen as an extension of our very selves so
we are what we read - both metaphorically and physically. I wonder what the Kindle will add to our structural relationship with text?

Julie Brixey-Williams is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, whose work explores the synergic physical relationship that the body shares with space. She is the founder member of point and place: a collaborative group of artists with a special interest in publications.
