'Brain Coral'
Jacqui Dodds, UK
Inspiration for this print has been taken from a brain coral in the collection at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. Starting with my drawings I have then hand screenprinted the image onto Japanese Kozo paper which has been overlaid onto Somerset printmaking paper. Printing onto the Japanese Kozo paper allows a different colour layer to be added to the paper and emphasises the coral colour in the prints.
Jacqui Dodds is an artist who works in paint and printmaking: My practice revolves around memories of places I have visited. Then I retrace, relive images and feelings of these spaces and with these ideas in mind create my own narrative and essence of the place in print and painting removing superfluous detail.
I also create artworks for museums and heritage and over the past two years I have been working on the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery Contemporary Visual Artists Professional Development Project, a contemporary art and heritage project linked to the development of the new Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery in Shropshire, and have been invited to exhibit new work in the Roman Gallery in the autumn of 2014.
