Lepisma saccharina, commonly known as the silverfish, is a small, wingless insect found in many buildings throughout the world. The common name comes from its silvery light grey colour, oval shape, and scales. The scientific name, L. saccharina indicates the silverfish's diet of matter that contains polysaccharides, the starches found in adhesives.
