Inspired by Meg Green's artist's book 'JOVE'S BROTHER', the 2015 edition of 100 signed and numbered bookmarks includes the electronic QR CODE of Jove's Brother, transparent text and a random slice of Herman Melville's iconic 'MOBY DICK' riveted together in layers.
Get out your QR code reader to explore Jove's Brother, an observation on our evolving relationship with books and reading in a digital age. Seven non-functioning Kindle e-readers have been bound into one complete volume. Hand drawn ‘pages' construct a series of images eventually forming a QR code which can be read by mobile, tablet or laptop. The code links to the continuous text of one of the most iconic books ever written in the English language displayed down a single page of this non-commercial dedicated website JovesBrother.com. The title of this artwork is revealed by searching the text.
Meg Green combines traditional binding methods with an innovative approach to materials and techniques. She's developed and improved a number of unique creative bindings through experimentation, exploration and simply taking apart and reconstructing thousands of books over the years. Commissions include artist collaborations, unique volumes, limited editions, commercial editions, repairs and reconstructions.
Meg holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Printmaking and Book Arts. She has been making Artist Books and teaching Book Arts since 1996 and her original works have exhibited and sold in Montreal, New York and London. She is the founder of Atelier Soleil, Centre for Book Arts in Montreal and Some Odd Pages in the UK. Meg currently teaches Book Arts and Bookbinding at the RACC in Richmond-upon-Thames and takes private students in her studio in Chertsey, Surrey.
